the work
The work, like us, is multifaceted.
Fighting for our rights
We are actively seeing our rights stripped away. From unconstitutional laws targeting the trans population to illegal detainment and imprisonment of immigrants (and anyone who ICE feels like attacking).
The fear is palpable, and our communities are struggling. Raising awareness, creating community, gathering resources, and protesting are essential right now.
This fall, I’ll be starting law school, where I hope to learn the skills I’ll need to challenge these unconstitutional laws on a legal level.
HB 264
Last year, House Bill 264 was introduced and ultimately passed into law in Idaho. It made it illegal for trans people to use the bathroom that aligns with their identity on college campuses, community colleges, in domestic violence shelters, and correctional facilities.
We are expecting an expansion on this law some time this session.
hb 270
House Bill 270 was enacted last March. It expanded Idaho’s indecent exposure law to target the trans community.
It was aimed at trans women, but it also made it a misdemeanor for a trans man to be topless after top surgery.
The language in the bill was intentionally vague, stating that a person could be charged if someone else was present and offended.
